How Sleep Affects Our Skin

During sleep, the heart beats more slowly, breathing becomes slower, growth hormones peak, muscles relax and body temperature lowers. Newborn infants sleep almost continuously, gradually decreasing their need for sleep. In early childhood, 12 to 13 hours of sleep are generally required and this amount decreases to approximately 8 hours in adulthood.

There are two main stages of sleep classified according to eye movement.

The first is rapid eye movement which is a shallow, dream-filled sleep.
During this time the muscles relax while the brain produces irregular wave activity.
and brain waves become larger as the body is asleep. where growth hormones peak, and cell and tissue repair take place.
Every 90 minutes the brain enters the dream sub-stage, where brain wave activity is similar in pattern to being awake, but muscles are not able to move as when awake. This stage lengthens each repeated cycle during the night, and is crucial to preserving mental health and long term memory, since the brain sorts through short term memory and 'deletes' unimportant data.
The second major stage of sleep is non rapid eye movement, where blood pressure drops and heart rate slows as the person enters a deep sleep.

Oily Skin Care

Causes of Oily Skin

Hormonal imbalances in adolescence cause oily skin. This type of skin is common in teenagers. The oil secretion in skin increases during teen age and decreases as age advances. Hormonal imbalance may appear during pregnancy and menopause, which lead to increase secretion of oil from oil glands of skin. Contraceptive pills and cosmetics also tend to increase the oil secretion. Humidity and Hot weather naturally increase oil secretion from oil glands of skin. The oil producing glands of skin are overactive and produce more oil. The excess oil, which oozes out gives the skin a greasy shine and the enlarged pores make the skin look coarse.

Ayurveda tips for Oily skin condition.
  • Wash skin with plenty of warm water (2-3 times a day) and mild soap or herbal scrub to prevent clogging of pores
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals to remove oil, as some amount of natural oil is needed to maintain the texture of skin.
  • Avoid constipating foods.
  • Include ginger, pepper, and long pepper in diet.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Avoid excessive consumption of soft drinks, alcohol, tea, coffee and chocolates.

Wrinkles and its Remedies

Let us Know about Normal Skin before analysing the skin with wrinkles. The skin normal is made up of 3 layers - the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis is the outer layer .The cells of the epidermis, move from the bottom layer of the epidermis to the top layer. Epidermis acts as a protective layer to external environment. As the cells reach the top layer they flake off.
The second layer dermis, contains the connective tissues which are the structural elements of the skin. These tissues give skin the strength (collagen fibres), turgor , elasticity (elastin) etc. The cells of the epidermis receive their nutrients from the blood vessels in the dermis.
Below dermis is the subcutaneous tissue containing fat cells. These fat cells act as insulation to the body. The skin looks plumpy due to fat cells.

Skin Moisturizer:

For normal skin mix 1 tablespoon orange juice and 1 tablespoon lemon juice in a cup of yogurt, to make a paste. Apply it on face as a mask and keep it on for 15 minutes. Then clean it off with a wet tissue. This mask enhances the complexion and glow of face.

Hair conditioner to add shine.

Natural Tonics For Hair

  • Apple cider vinegar is great to add to the water you use for rinsing your hair. It makes sure there’s no soap residue left in your barnet!
  • Sick waiting for that hair to grow? Just add sage tea. A well known hair growth stimulant.

Olive and essential oil hair treatment.

Grab some extra virgin olive oil, pour a little in a cosmetic jar, bowl, or the lid to your latest microwave dinner–whatever’s handy. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil and a few drops of rosemary. Work some into the ends of your hair first, then the crown, brushing down with your fingers. Let sit for at least half an hour, preferably with a plastic grocery bag over your hair. If your hair’s pretty thick, you might not need to wash right away–that is, if you don’t mind smelling like an Italian kitchen–I’m sure don’t, and neither does my boyfriend, who prefers it to the smell of fruity perfume!

Honey and sugar face scrub

Mix a tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of sugar.
Wash your face, but don’t dry.
Heat the mixture–about 5 or 6 seconds in the microwave–then gently exfoliate your face.
This stuff rinses great, and doesn’t leave a lot of gunk in your sink or tub, unlike some higher-end cleansers.
Plus, it gives you that great glow that makes you look like you’ve been doing you-know-what, even if you haven’t

Vegetable Mask

Mix ingredients together and apply on your face. Wait for ten minutes, and then wash off with warm water. This mask works well for oily skin, since it absorbs the surplus oils. Tomatoes are excellent anti-oxidants, and the curd prevents excessive drying.
